1. ‘ Snow Algae, Jehkas’ was painted during the Särestöniemi symposium in Särestöniemi Museum, Kaukonen/Kittilä/Lapland, 8. – 27.8.2011. It is a study of snow algae I sampled for microscopy in Jehkas (Kilpisjärvi) this summer. Snow algae live in water pillars between snow crystals.
2.‘Ephippia’, the first painting on water theme. Resting eggs of Daphnia and the structure that carries them is called ephippia. Daphnia pulex is an important scientific model animal and its genome has been sequenced and published.
